No matter how you feel about Assemblymember Nicole Parra what has happened to her, being kicked out of the Capitol Building and having all her bills trashed canned, it in fact has happened to 420,000 constituents. Karen Bass, Speaker of the Assembly has pretty much put our representative and our representative’s legislative bills in limbo. Now I ask where is the Latino Caucus, The Central San Joaguin Valley is comprised of a large latino population that earns its living out of working the fields and providing food for the tables of Democrats and Republicans alike, Water is an important issue and must be fought for, Thank you Assemblymember Nicole Parra for not being bought and for fighting for your constituents. The State of California has for too long been a victim of partisan politics and it time our elected representatives represent us and not the special interest. Ladies and Gentlemen, a population of 420,000 has been effectively compromised by the banning of our elected representative Assemblymember Nicole Parra, Its an outrage. Write your letters of indignation to Speaker Karen Bass and the Chair of the Latino Caucus and demand that our representative be reinstated in her office in the Capitol Building. As a Commissioner for The County of Kern Human Relations Commission, I get a lot of calls regarding incidents of Civil Rights violations. I received such a call recently about an incident where supporters of “No” on Proposition 8 were at the “Peace” corner of Stockdale and California and the caller tells me that one of the supporters of “No” was attacked by a Trustee of the Bakersfield High School Board, Ken Mettler. I was told I could go to Youtube.com and under “Fascist” or “Ken Mettler” you could see the altercation. It appears that there clearly is a violation of the right of freedom of speech, and a poor example on how to handle a situation peacefully. A High School Trustee should at best be able to be a role model for our younger generation and resolve the conflict peacefully.
It is the duty of law enforcement to try to get to the truth by interviewing all the parties involved, which was not the case here according to the caller.
One of our founding fathers said” I may not agree with what you say but I will fight to my death for your right to say it” We have lost many of our countrymen and women who sacrificed their lives for our right to comment or criticize our government after all our country was founded by a revolution. If local law enforcement cannot see the significance of a violation of civil rights than the US Justice Dept. must be petitioned.
